Winter approaches with the waning daylight

as the nights grow cooler

Autumn’s last rain descends upon the city

cleansing the scent of city life while leaving

nature’s musky aroma

Once free floating within the gentle breezes

of Autumn now plunging all soaked and listless

With the final drops falling from leafless

branches of barren trees into shallow rivers

flowing along these cobblestone lane’s

Endless ripples crashing into one another

cresting splashing upward as if giant waves

in a vast sea

Leaves crashing into each other as if they

Were boats being tossed about in a surging

river as a fleet of leaves sailing along in

nature’s regalia of yellow and brown assorted

reds and oranges a mighty armada on

its way to the sea

Alas drifting along caught up in the ebbing of time

As the Winter breeze brings a shiver

the fading light of day and

the close of Autumn
